What are Common Sports Injuries?
Common sports injuries vary from sport to sport. The part(s) of the body that are used a lot will often run the highest risk of common sports injuries for that sport. Selected the type of training that you want and assess the particular parts of the body that will be used.
Know Your Sport
Pain is the body's warning system and a simple twinge while working out can sometimes lead to a ping later that night. That simple twinge can be a soft tissue injury -- which are the ligaments, tendons, and connective tissues which attach muscles to bones.
A widely known sports injuries for distance runners would include lower joints pains - the knees, ankles, and phalanges, whereas, a recognized sports injuries for weight lifters would include the back, shoulder, or chest muscles.
NOTE: Any physical activities can cause strain or sprain when done incorrectly or too often The following list does not include all sports injuries but these are some common sports injuries based on the anatomy:
Head - Football, Rugby, Soccer, Boxing
Neck and Shoulders - Wrestling, Weight lifting, Rock Climbing, Repelling
Back - All sports (usually due to trauma or bad body alignment while doing physical activities)
Abdomen (hernias) - All sports (can be due to disproportion of back to abdomen ratio), Heavy lifters
Thighs - Sprinters, Heavy Lifters
Knees - All sports (Joints injuries occur with lateral movement +/- 90 degrees against the hinge points, front trauma, or ligament/tendon fatigue)
Calves - Runners
Ankles - Same as knees, only there are more bones associated with the connecting points
Feet - All sports, Dancers
